Romelu Lukaku transfer rumors

The transfer window is near and transfer rumors about Romelu Lukaku have again hit the headlines. The former Chelsea player who was loaned to West Brom and subsequently to Everton, his current club, has again sparked interests by multiple managers across the football world. Only time would answer if Romelu Lukaku ends the 2016-17 season as an Everton player or a different club’s player.

In the meantime, Arsene Wenger has admitted his interest in Lukaku. Speaking to the club’s official website, Wenger said, “I knew him when he played in Belgium. He came to Chelsea very early and, once a player is at a big London club, it’s difficult for us to get him.

Wenger’s quest for Romelu Lukaku

Arsenal’s quest for a top-class striker has only recently been solved by Alexis Sanchez’ rise to prominence in a central role this season but Arsene Wenger had previously struggled to find the right man for the job, much to the frustration of Arsenal fans.

Had Wenger got his way though, the Gunners may have boasted one of the best forwards in the Premier League as the French boss was keen on signing Belgian ace Romelu Lukaku before he signed for Chelsea back in 2011.

Things didn’t go his way at Stamford Bridge but Lukaku made a name for himself on-loan with West Brom and Everton, earning a permanent move to the latter and scoring 70 goals in 142 appearances for the Toffees since.

Wenger, well accustomed to young talent across Europe, was aware of Lukaku’s talent when the striker was aged just 18 but couldn’t secure a move.

With Romelu Lukaku seemingly outgrowing Everton, the Belgian striker could be on the move again in the coming transfer windows but Arsenal would have to pay a hefty sum to bring him to North London.
