Jose Mourinho has had many firsts in his managerial career. He added yet another feat to his stellar career when he fielded the first ever £400m worth team against Leicester City today. The most expensive premier league team eased passed through the Leicester Challenge and registered their third successive victory this season. More importantly, it was the third consecutive match when Manchester United won with a clean sheet. They have now scored 10 goals this season.

With club-record signing Paul Pogba and summer signings Romelu Lukaku, who cost an initial £75m, and Nemanja Matic, who cost £40m, also picked, it took the total value of today’s lineup past the £400m mark.

Interestingly, the ManU team today breaks the record held by rivals Manchester City, who have named ever-so-slightly increasingly expensive XIs in their first three matches of the new season.

Starting against Brighton, and then Everton, their side got increasingly more expensive, before culminating in a starting XI against Bournemouth that cost £376.2m.
